FIFA WORLD CUP 2022 MAIN IMPORTANT THINGS

Despite all the economic pressure of the U.S. and Qatar being on the edge of corruption, the FIFA organization should allow them to host the World Cup in 2022, even if they know that not everything in Qatar will be top-notch. FIFA is a huge corporation that does not really care about the human cost and will likely have to deal with a lot of angry FIFA members if they fail to come up with a solution for the 2022 tournament that will satisfy everyone. But their experience of bringing the World Cup to Brazil was such a success that I think they should give them a chance.

I don't really think it will have a major effect on the development of the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Qatar is the smallest country ever to host the World Cup and I doubt there will be any serious economic downfall because of the economic impact. Though the leaders of Qatar may not make a mistake and invest in the development of social services, I don't think there will be an effect that will cause major economic upheaval.

Apart from the World Cup, Qatar is preparing for another huge event, the FIFA World Youth Cup. The games will start on 1st January 2014. It is an exciting time for soccer fans in Qatar because the 2022 World Cup is still two years away but they also know that it is coming and if they can achieve a good result during the FIFA World Youth Cup, it will have a huge impact on the 2022 World Cup. That is one of the reasons why the tournament will be held in Qatar.

The FIFA World Youth Cup (FIFA U-17 and U-20) will take place in Qatar in 2014, and is a direct qualification event for the FIFA World Cup 2022. The qualifying tournament will take place in six venues in the United Arab Emirates (five in Abu Dhabi and one in Dubai). According to FIFA, since 1993, over 85 million fans have seen the matches of the FIFA World Youth Cup. This number is steadily growing and will reach 100 million by 2022. The capacity of the FIFA World Cup stadiums in Qatar is planned at 80,000. This is not much to show that Qatar will have more than enough stadiums to host the World Cup in 2022. So FIFA should be cautious about the construction of other stadiums in the country.

No matter what happens, FIFA needs to see the big picture and not lose sight of the positives. There are millions of soccer fans in Qatar and across the Middle East who want the 2022 World Cup to be a success. Qatar knows how to host big tournaments. Just a few weeks ago, they managed to host the 2013 Asia Cup, the final of which was played at the newly-renovated stadium of Qatar. Yes, the Qatar stadium had a roof that did not go very well and they had to fix it after the World Cup final but they also did a good job of fixing the problems that they had before and after. We still don't know if they are able to fix the stadium roof for the World Cup but I think they should be confident that they will be able to get it fixed for the 2022 World Cup.

We also don't know if Qatar will be ready by 2022 but if Qatar wins the World Cup, they will have a huge infrastructure that will be able to host a major tournament on top of a major economic boost. The FIFA organization should not let the lack of transparency from the Qatar government overshadow the positives of hosting the World Cup in Qatar. FIFA will have a big impact on the economy of Qatar and will make some serious money but FIFA is a huge international corporation that does not really care about the human cost. I don't really think they will lose any money if they fail to provide a good enough stadium to host a World Cup in 2022. That is just one of the reasons why FIFA should not lose sight of the big picture.

Some people might wonder what is the point of writing a post about Qatar and FIFA if Qatar is not able to provide a good enough stadium to host a World Cup. Well, that is a valid question. Let's take a look at another one. Is there really any point to writing a post about Qatar if Qatar fails to win the World Cup in 2022? It seems a bit ridiculous for FIFA and FIFA alone to decide if Qatar is a good candidate to host the 2022 World Cup because they will be judged by what FIFA does. They will evaluate Qatar by all the wrong criteria and they might fail in their evaluation. FIFA needs to come up with more realistic criteria for judging Qatar and if they fail to do so, then Qatar will not get the right to host the 2022 World Cup. It would be fair for FIFA to know that Qatar will not be able to make a good stadium for the 2022 World Cup and FIFA needs to be honest about it.
